Solemn day…

Today marks the anniversary of the death of Göran Kropp while we were rock climbing together at Frenchman Coulee in eastern Washington state. That cool autumn day which was full of joy and promise for the future, ended with tragedy with his swift departure at the young age if 35; he was the same age as my brother.

On the way back from his funeral in Stockholm that November, I drew the world map on a piece of paper and marked the highest summit on each continent except Antarctica. I vowed to reach each of these summits by human power in memory of Göran Kropp. This became the genesis of the Six Summits Project.

Today, I am at Waikiki planning to relaunch Oct 5th toward mainland Asia so that I can pedal to foothills of Everest to climb it in the fall of 2022, pending sponsorships. Next up will be Elbrus then Aconcagua.

May each of us have friends in our lives who encourage us to reach beyond the horizon.

Erden.
